Keeping an eye on things

I haven't been blogging much - actually have had real life to do. Chickens continue to grow and are developing real "chickatude" - pecking at my feet or the dogs!

We had guests on Sunday - made a "lemonade" cake and dadgum it was good. Several activities at the end of a school year, even with no children of our own we can rejoice with the children in our extended family-by-choice.

When I get down about not having a family of our own - I am blessed by contact with the family of our hearts - thanking the Lord for those we love.

"Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the other person’s ultimate good as far as it can be obtained."C. S. Lewis

Still busy - didn't want you to think I'd forgotten y'all - there is a time to reap and a time to sow - this is the time we are sowing whether it is a cake or hospitality or tending chickens and it is good on Buhlaland!

Now I don't feel so bad. I have missed you but I didn't realize you weren't blogging because I wasn't either, or at least I could only get two maybe three blogs looked at before I had to run again.
I'm glad you had cake with good people. Hope you and yours are all doing just fine.

I'm enjoying watching you chickies grow, Linda Sue! They sure are beautiful birds.
It's very easy to spoil them, isn't it? A piece of cornbread or a breadcrumb, and they think you ought to ALWAYS have some after that! LOL

Great to hear from you!

I may have missed and if I did please let me know, but that cake looks scrumptious. When you have time, would you mind posting the recipe?

Love the picture of the chickens pecking your feet!

Ah yes, real life! That is what I have been up to lately....no T.V., no computer....what DID we do without those things? Watch chickens and bake cakes for people we love?

Family of the heart is family indeed.

So good to read your blog even though you are busy. Your chickens are so cute. I am having the worst problem with snake in my hen house. I have tried every thing and they still come back. I cannot put my new chicks into their hutch because the snakes are alway in there too. Any suggestions? Blessings,Kathleen

Hi Lindasue....me again...thank you for your answer about chicks and snakes. I put my chicks out this week in their henhouse hutch, thinking it was secure....I checked on them off and on throughout the day. In the late afternoon, I heard them squealing and I saw them jumping around. I ran to find a large bullsnake curled around one baby chick. I had been pruning trees and all I had were my shears in my hand, so I just closed the shears around the snake's body, just enough to hang on to it and drag it out of the hutch. It was so into the baby chick it did not realize I had it. I made it all the way to our patio and thumped the snake on the hard cement ground. He uncurled, the baby chick went rolling across the patio and the snake got bagged and taken to a new home about three miles down the road. The baby chick survived. I have once again reinforced the hutch and hope this doesn't happen again. So thank you for getting back with me! blessings,Kathleen
