Baby goats (kids) are absolutely adorable - frisky and curious about everything. The mamas are interesting - it has been 2 years since we had babies so some of the first timers are actually 3 years old. Most are doing a great job - not sure what I'll do with the one who rejected her very healthy little buck baby. He is in the pictures of a frantic mouth seeking the bottle - yo
u need to know ,when the pictures were taken - he'd already had more than a full bottle. Gluttony 
becomes the ruler when he doesn't have mamas attention.
Beautiful little reddish brown doe needs naming - I've put it off because I needed to see who was staying and which ones we'd sell. I think she is staying - her mother's name is Bla

The black eared mama is a first timer named Montana (yes daughter of Hannah) her baby is exceptionally sweet and also nameless thus far. The two little bucks in a picture together - one is my bottle boy and the other is Kaj (now named Josiah) who was sold last night to a little girl for her 4H project.

Sunsets are so peaceful - the trees are budding up but still bare limbs silhouetted against the sky - it is good on Buhlaland and we are grateful for each day.

Forgive my goat ignorance...but why do the mama goats sometimes reject their kids?

Pam if I knew for sure I could probably be famous (at least in the circles of people who care about goats) - most often it is because the baby has something wrong but in this case - the mama just didn't like having a baby - didn't let it near her and to this day won't let that baby boy even sleep near her. Seems like she linked the pain to him and wants nothing to do with him.
I want to see buds on our trees! So far we have had 50 degree highs and I'm loving it. It won't last long, but for now it is a nice respite.

Hey Linda Sue - what do ya'll DO with your goats? There's alot of folks that raise 'em around here. Just wondering...I love goats - they're so funny to watch.
We're trying to think more "self-sufficient" like ya'll, too. May be a little more in the future, but I'm making plans.
It is so nice to view kid goats and a world that in which all is well tonight.Your baby goats are really pretty, yes, pretty ! I just love the long ears. makes me miss my Nubians.
I had only one Jacob ewe ever reject her lamb. She twinned, and rejected the ewe lamb that did not resemble her. Amazing...she kept and mothered her little look alike and I found her hooking the other ( perfectly healthy ) with her horn and flinging it into the wall. My only bottle baby Jacob sheep. She grew quite well and went on to be a good mama herself.I did not keep the bad mama, I have enough sheep to decide I don't like a mom who rejects her own.
They are all so cute Linda Sue... can I come over and hug one? Ot two... or all of them.... LOL

Paula girl you are always welcome to come by and play with baby goatzees. Miz SandFlats - we keep most of the does for breeding and eating our briars and weeds. The little bucks are about to become wethers this week and they will just eat and play and grow until they reach 60 pounds - then they will take that one way trip into town. Kelly or Alex - it was in the 70's today - I lived in Vermont for a few years and admire those hardy enough to do it - I'm not one!
KathyB - I'm not sure what I'll do with the doe involved - she is out of our favorite line and yet really isn't very sweet (the rest of them are) - DH is inclined to keep her and see if this was first timer jitters. So for now - we'll see. You are a better animal husbandry person than I am - I tend to go by the seat of my very ample pants on most stuff!
