Making Living Space more Live-able

On to living room - obviously adjoins the large kitchen/eating area.
We (royal use of the term since DH did 99.7% of the labor) removed carpet, tack strips, pad and assorted bits attached to concrete flooring.

Our original idea was to clean, stain and seal concrete but would have been a heck of a job given multiple stains and paint slop currently revealed on concrete slab. Glad we decided to go with cork flooring -

Eager to begin painting - will be a color at Home Depot - Behr paint called Fragrant Jasmine (barely creamy white) in eggshell and semi gloss finishes. House seems a little dark so we want to lighten up the walls and put a more reflective finish.

Think we've reached agreement on fireplace - currently sooty looking and dark brick pretty much overwhelms -the room. DH wants to build a mantle. We're going to paint the brick - either same color as we paint walls or a tone or two darker. What do y'all think?

Only one window in living room -
we will be installing an open outward front door to gain almost 3 feet of wall space.
Oh yes - will be putting in a ceiling hugger fan
with no light fixture - current one is a bit
too much.

Last picture just keeping it real - oxygen concentrator in house now so DH can move around attached to his O2 leash - too bad they haven't invented oxygen supply without a cord (yeah right - think about it). Mild case of want to get done - sure it'll intensify but time and money - all we need to git'er done on Buhlaland - and it is all good!

They make paint that is low vapor. Maybe that will help with the smells. Less of an irritant. I personally think a couple of shades darker on the fireplace. I am looking forward to the mantle. Thanks for the pics.

Yes, paint the brick fireplace, just a shade darker, but still light. A mantle would be nice. Ya'll are making progress here, Linda Sue - it'll be done in no-time! That's gonna look real nice!

Cork floor looks and sounds nice. I like the looks of the brick fireplace. You will have to scrub it before painting anyway so you can see how it looks then. I hope you can get someone to help you with that. It really is a very nice looking home that will soon be ready for your personal touches. Thinking of you! Katie

I think you'll be very happy with your cork floor and it is so much easier on your feet too.

Everything is looking better, I like the fireplace. Your new home is very nice, and don't you think the oxygen thing-a-ma-jig adds that just right touch, the touch that says " my man is here and we are home!"

Kelly - the paint seems to be pretty low vapor so we are good with it -
Yes to you and Vickie - a few shades darker is currently our thought also. Katie - DH and I are able to do a lot - he has to stop and rest often but no biggie - we are doing it for ourselves.
KathyB - you are SOOO right - without the oxygen concentrator - I'd be a lonely only!

How very nice! I agree with the others, make the fireplace just a little darker to make it a focal point.
I know you both will be so happy in your new place.

I'm chuckling heartily about the fireplace, before I clicked on your blog I zipped through on Reader and when I saw your fireplace, I fell in love with it. A beautiful curved mantel above the vents, what my dad called a heatilator before it became a brand name, would be an awesome addition, but I wouldn't paint it but I'd strip it of the soot and then seal it, but then that is just me, daughter of a fireplace builder.

I'm so excited to see how it all comes together, very very excited for you!

apparently I spoke too soon - we were not agreed about painting the brick - going to try Lanny's suggestions first - as Skip said - can always paint the brick later on if we really don't like it.

I **love** the cork flooring and the fireplace...so beautiful If you do paint the fireplace, make sure it's the paint that won't catch fire...can't remember but there's a name for it. Be safe, girlfriend!
