Autumn Bounty

The local outdoor market displayed their fall merchandise this week - familiar smell of ristras (the dried red peppers hanging from ceiling) and wild versions of gourds - the one white with orange one looks like it has spider veins (some of us are more familiar with that beauty of aging than others!). We don't be doing a fall display - partically because nobody sees it (we live off the road) and also because the basic pumpkin in the big display goes for $5.95 upward to $25-30! Lots of money when they aren't even good for pies! I've posted a picture of the pie pumpkins display - $2 each or 3 for $5 .
What does all this have to do with Buhlaland? - well we like the fall weather we are having - cooler and more rain in the forecast and we get a kick out of the decorating lots of people are doing. God created beauty for us -

from Genesis we see God making things beautiful - for the sake of beauty
Genesis 2:8-9 (New Living Translation)
8 Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made. 9 The Lord God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

So for enjoying the fall colors and decorations - we can say thank you to the Creator and appreciate - it is good and feeling autumnal here on Buhlaland.

Beautiful pumpkins!! I love going to the farmer's amrket and looking at all the strange and unusual types of pumpkins for sale. Some are very expensive!
Beautiful verse and words, Linda Sue!

I guess that is the reason that our warm and cozy colors are always fall colors. They are apealing to our spirit. We want to grow pumpkins and gourds next year. I refuse to pay the high costs of pumpkins!

Well, Linda, gulp, I bought some pumpkins. 3 to be exact - one pie pumpkin, and 2 ornamental. And the big one is already rotting. It must've had a bad spot on it when I bought it.

It has been my experience that when I buy something that I don't really need to be spending money on, it usually winds up "messing up" or not working out like I want it to! Have a blessed Sunday!

You are so right about God creating beauty for us to enjoy! I am very thankful for that too. Pumpkins aren't quite that expensive around here, it has been a good year in this part of the Pacific Northwest for all kinds of sun loving produce, we are still harvesting a lot of it.

I was thinking of picking up all the pumpkins I can when they are on sale really, really cheap because the chickens and sheep love them and the health benefits of pumpkins for them are many...hope the cooler air is doing you some good there on Buhl-la-land! Blessings abound to you both and your critters.

Good morning Linda! Fall has most certainly arrived here at Victory Farm and Gardens. We got home just in time to put floating row cover on my brugs (brugmansia, a tender tropical plant) and a couple of the tomato plants. Went up into the mountains for a little momma and poppas weekend, unfortunately the colors haven't really taken off yet.

Thank you so much for the cake recipes! My mom just sent them on to me from you. Just recently my kids have been asking for lemon cake - they really like it so I will use the recipe you sent next time I make it! Well, my mom and I and my kids are off on a road trip to spend the weekend with my 2 brothers and will be visiting a corn maze so hopefully will get some nice 'harvesty' photos like the ones you have here! Thanks again.
